On the Meadow in Moonlight

Coyotes yip at the full moon

luminous in the rough granite ridge,

harry it into open sky

and surround it, singing.

A saw-whet owl whistles repetitious notes

and fades to silence

when great grey owls

exchange deeply resonant Hoo?

Great greys fly toward each other

silhouettes against a moonlit sky

while the tiny saw-whet

hunts voles in spring green grass

Two coyotes trot across the moonlit meadow.

Owls fly across the moon.

Green reaches skyward.

Spring celebrates life toward summer.
