Dream Images

                        You walk beside me in dreams.

                        I wake.

                        Yellow moon in dark conifers

                        above my window,

                        soft light on the mountain.

                        You call me as clearly as night sky

                        surrounds the moon.

                        Your face shines

                        translucent against the moon.

                        Loneliness heels like dogs,

                        quieter than footsteps in soft grass

                        I wake at dawn.

                        snipes hoohoohoohoohooo

                        like maniacal laughter.

                        Night hawk's deep boom echoes from granite bluff.

                        great horned owls speak

                        deeply resonant hoo, hoo-oo, hoo.

                        I walk in cold morning,

                        dreams

                        like wildcats under my jacket

                        Golden sun rises

                        above cold granite ridge

                        and soaks me in warmth.

                        Dreams escape to brilliance

                        I walk away memories,

                        from dreams bright as moonlight.

                        I walk into days

                        bright as early sun

                        on green mountains.
